Learn about an easy-to-follow "spill plan", which forest contractors can use to guide their efforts to minimize, prevent and control unwanted petroleum or chemical product spills.  These spill precautions are intended to demonstrate best practices for forest contractors, landowners, SFI certified forests, and Oregon regulations.  An added bonus will be vendor presentations about spill kits, clean-up methods, and safe fuel/oil handling.  Spill planning is a voluntary effort - not a government regulation - that's already used by many Oregon forest contractors and landowners

DavidDavid Hampton is a third generationmanager for Hampton Affiliates, a family-owned integrated forest products company, based in Portland, Oregon.  As assistant tree farm manager in Salem, David's been involved with all aspects of timberland operations for over 25 years, including application of herbicides, planting, and harvest plans.  He serves on the board of Hampton Affiliates, World Forestry Center, Oregonians for Food & Shelter, and West OR Protective Assn.  He attended Centeral Oregon Community College and Evergreen College.

After its announced purchase of the Warrenton, OR sawmill, Hampton Affiliates will have eight sawmills in Oregon, Washington, and British Columbia with annual production capacity of over 2 billion board feet of lumber.  The company also owns 98,000 acres of timberland in the Northwest and manages 120,000 hectares of provincial timberland in B.C.  

 

 

Rex

Rex Storm is Forest Policy Manager for Associated Oregon Loggers (AOL), a statewide trade association based in Salem.  He works with harvest & allied forest contract businesses and represents them in forest regulatory affairs, industry relations, and professional accreditation. 

Prior to joining AOL in 1995, his career included positions in Oregon, Idaho, Wyoming and Wisconsin working with American Pulpwood Association, the US Forest Service, and Louisiana-Pacific.  Rex began forestry work in 1975 as a firefighter with the US Forest Service in Utah.

Rex holds a BS degree in forest management from Colorado State University, an MBA from the University of Oregon, and certificates from the Forest Engineering Institute, Certified Silviculturist, and Leadership Oregon.  He owns and manages a small tree farm located in Columbia County.  Rex is a member of Oregon Small Woodlands Association, Society of American Foresters, and is a Certified Forester.

 

 

KnottsBrad Knotts is the Forest Practices Field Coordinator, working at the Oregon Dept. of Forestry in Salem. Brad assists the local stewardship foresters statewide in effectively and consistently administering the Oregon Forest Practices Act.  For the past ten years, Brad worked at ODF's Salem headquarters doing forest policy analysis and field support - with petroleum chemical, and pesticide regulation as one area of specialization.

He started with the Dept. of Forestry in 1980, working in the field in the State Forests program for eight years in Grants Pass and Forest Grove.  Then, he spent 11 years in the field with forest contractors, as a FOREST Practices Forester at ODF's Dallas unit.  Brad received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Forest Management from Oregon State University in 1980

 

 

 

TerryTerry Maves is Sales Manager covering the Western USA for Spill Control, Inc.  As factory Representative, Terry provides dealer support for vendors of SCI's line of chemical / petroleum spill clean-up and prevention supplies  Terry has worked in industrial chemical distribution for 25+ years.  Earlier, he was an environmental education teacher for seven years in the public school systems.  He received his BA in Biology & Earth Sciences in 1972 from Pacific Lutheran University. 

Spill Control Inc is the Sumner, Washington-based provider of value-added pollution controls, including stormwater, containment, and sorbent product s - for wholesale distribution with just-in-time delivery and quality support.  SCI supplies logger's supply shops, safety stores, fuel dealers, and manufacturers with spill kits, sorbents, containment products and other spill response products

 

  

MillerBill Miller is Fuel Service Manager for Tyree Oil Inc in Eugene.   Bill runs the fleet fueling and home heating side, which services forest contractors.  Just recently joining Tyree in November of 2009, he previously worked for Marshall's Oil for 14 years.

Bill has completed a 40 hour class in 2003 for hazardous waste operations & emergency response.  The hazardous waste management credential involves an annual 8 hrs refresher clas.  For 15 years, he has seen oil tank leaks, truck fuel spills and has helped clear-up the petroleum discharge.

Tyree Oil, Inc. an Oregon based distributor of petroleum products and services.  With branch locations in Eugene, Roseburg, Reedsport, and North Bend,  Tyree Oil delivers commercial gasoline, diesel fuel, fuel oil, kerosene, lubricants, alternative fuels and supplies to commercial trades, includig trucking, logging, construction, agriculture, industrial, government, marine, railroad cardlock and retail.

 

 

JackGregory Jack is a Training Officer & Captain for Lane Rural Fire & Resure, located in Eugene.  Greg is experienced and knowledgeable regarding emergency first response for spill incidents involving petroleum and chemicals.  He has Associats and Bchelors degrees, an MPA(C), and is certified with Dept. of Public Safety Standards & Training, as a NFPA Fire Officer I, NFPA Instructor I, First Responder-Operations (HazMat), and On-Scene Incident Commander (HazMat).

Greg has been in the fire servce for 19 years, beginning inthe US Coast Guard performing shipboard firefighting.  through most of his career, his work involved structural firefighting in the small communities where he was assigned.  He was a career training officer for Mohawk Valley RFD.  Greg also in the past worked for Oregon Dept. of Forestry, US FOrest Service, as well as a volunteer with McKenzie Fire & Rescue.
